Falcon Indoor Track competed in the regional meet in early February at Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia. A handful of athletes advanced to the state meet to finish their season with All-State honors.

What happened: The indoor track team competed in the Class 5 Indoor Track and Field Championships against other Class 5 State teams from all over Virginia including Richmond, Charlottesville, and Northern Virginia.

Key Players: All state qualifiers finished their season well. Junior Morgan McKinley ran a season-best of 3:11.93 in the 1000m run to place 8th overall. Freshman Carsen Johnston finished 16th overall with a time of 12:15.52 in the 3200m. Underclassmen, Bella Clark, Salya Brown, Lindsey Bruns, and Mckinley represented the 4×8 relay team. The team ran a time of 10:08.29 which was seconds off their season-best to place 7th out of 13 teams. Junior RJ Jefferies doubled in two field-events: long and triple jump. Jefferies performed a 45-8.5 triple jump mark to earn bronze.

What they said: “We did really well as a team. Morgan [Mckinley] made All-State, and the 4×8 team made All-States too. I dropped time, so overall we did great,” Johnston said.

Key moment: The girls’ 4×8 team (7th) and Jefferies in the triple jump (3rd) placed in All-State honors.

Up next: The 2020 outdoor track season began training in early March. Meet schedule TBD.
