The Falcons had a more than successful winter sports season. Teams finished with winning records and high rankings and placed in multiple meets.
Indoor Track made strong strides on the track, swim & dive put up points with elegant dives into the pool, while the basketball teams hit buckets on the court, and gymnasts stuck landings. The winter sports teams found success all around.
Most recently, the Falcon wrestling team earned its sixth regional championship, then went on to become Class 5 State Champions for the third year in a row. Seniors Rudy Wagner, Karl Ludwig, Caleb Rafal, and juniors Vincente Granada and Landon Cahil took first place in their weight class. Junior Izaque Tomaz and senior Carson Miller both took third-place medals.
Both the Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball teams held on during their seasons, ending with final records of 10-12 and 10-13, respectively, which led to playoff appearances. Both teams ended their seasons last week against Princess Anne High School in the region quarterfinal. Notably, the girls’ basketball team made the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
The gymnastics team finished out their season earlier in February at Regionals. Overall, the Falcon gymnasts had several girls make podium appearances and placed first as a team in several meets.
Indoor Track will send several runners and jumpers to the state championship the first weekend in March, including a 4x800m relay team, senior triple jumper Caleb Biesack, and junior 55m hurdler Aven McLeod.
