After a challenging start to the season, the Falcon girls lacrosse team is beginning to hit its stride at the right time.
Opening the year with a 1–3 record, the Falcons suffered two tough one-goal losses to Cape Henry Collegiate (11–10) and Oakton High School (15–14), along with a setback against Norfolk Academy (14–7). Despite the early losses, the close margins showed the team’s ability to compete with strong opponents.
That resilience paid off last week.
The Falcons put together an impressive stretch, earning decisive wins over Landstown High School (16–6) and Bayside High School (18–7). They carried that momentum into this week, dominating rival First Colonial High School with a 17–10 victory on Tuesday, April 21.
Leading the offensive charge is senior captain Dani Killian, who has tallied 34 goals this season—an average of four per game. Her consistent scoring has anchored the Falcons’ attack and set the tone for the team’s recent success.
Control in the draw circle has also been a key factor. A senior captain, Liddy Lehmkuhler has recorded 26 draw controls this season, while sophomore Lilly Schrott has added 23 draw controls and 24 goals, proving to be a dual threat in both possession and scoring.
The Falcons’ depth has been on display in recent games. Junior Sadie Workman has stepped up offensively, scoring seven goals across the past two contests and providing an extra spark when it matters most.
Defensively, the team continues to show growth and cohesion. Sophomore goalie Chloe Harris has been a steady presence in the cage with 36 saves on the season. In front of her, captain Genevieve Jana and junior Cora Miller have led a strong defensive effort, forcing turnovers and fueling the Falcons’ transition game.
With momentum building and key players stepping up across the field, the Falcons are proving that their early-season record doesn’t define them. As the season continues, they look poised to keep climbing and make a serious push down the stretch.
