Falcon Field Hockey continues their tradition of competing in the state tournament. This season, the team has come out on top of ranking in the Top 10 of the nation. With only one loss this season, they are eyeing the state tournament final in the next week.

What happened: The varsity field hockey team won the 5A regional championship over Gloucester High School with a score of 1-0 on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Powhatan Field on the Old Dominion University campus.

Key Players: Senior captain Zoe Campisi, junior Sadie Cohen, and sophomore goalkeeper Abby Spear led the team to victory. Campisi continues to contribute to her team’s success this season by being a staple in the starting line-up. Spear has been a rock for this team by allowing only five goals past her this year with a shutout in the regional finals. Cohen has a streak of scoring by securing half of the team’s goals in their last two games.

They said it: “I’m extremely grateful for how much I have improved under the coaching of Rountree, and I wouldn’t have gotten that goal without the support and encouragement from my team,” Cohen said.

Key moment: Cohen scored the game winning goal with thirteen minutes left in the game from assist by Stevie Drum.

Up next: The next game is against Matoaca High School at the National Training Center at 3pm on Tuesday Nov. 12.
