Environmental Club’s pearl homes initiative

Since the beginning of March, the Environmental Club has tried to reach their goal of one hundred Pearl Homes for their Pearl Home Campaign.

Ultimately, the school’s goal is to become Pearl Home certified.

According to Lynnhaven River Now a Pearl Home is a home that meets the requirements of an environmentally sustainable home. Homeowners must fill out an application and check off at least fifteen boxes, as each box is an environmentally conscious requirement.

Some of these requirements include “scooping the poop,” reducing lawn size, and planting trees.  Any interested students can go to the Lynnhaven River Now website and register for their home to be a Pearl Home.

Gifted Resource teacher Mrs. Roberson is also the sponsor of the Environmental Club. Roberson encourages all students to register their homes.

“It’s an easy thing to do,” Roberson said . “By taking this small step, we help our watershed, and when we help out our watershed we also the world.”
