THE OFFENSIVE LINE gets set to block

Cheering, jumping, and chanting could be heard from the rowdy students in the school’s infamous “Nest”,  there was no extra room in the student section. As the football team emerged from the locker room, the packed stands erupted with excitement as kick off was on it’s way.

The 5-3 Falcons went into their homecoming game as underdogs against the heavily favored Sun Devils of Salem this past Friday. The Sun Devils were riding on an eight game winning streak against the Falcons who were not deterred by the record.

The offense heavy game saw both teams giving and receiving their fair share of blows. The score remained notched at 35-35 late in the fourth quarter until senior Josh Herslow stopped the advance of the Sun Devils on a key fourth down play.

” I knew if we made the stop we’d be in a good position to win the game,” Herslow said.

On the next play, junior quarterback Tayvion Robinson ran 60 yards to the end zone for his fifth rushing touchdown putting the Falcons up 42-35 with under two minutes left to play. The defense finished strong, holding back the last minute push from the Sun Devils to give us our first win against Salem in eight years.

This win guaranteed the Falcons a spot in the playoffs. Their seeding will improve if they come away with a win against the undefeated Eagles of Landstown this Friday at home.

“It was a very important win to the team, we needed this win to get into the playoffs and I believed in my team and they believed in me. Going forward we feel more confident and with a win this Friday we could be in a better position going into the playoffs,” Robinson said.
