The Girls Varsity Field Hockey team has started off their season with a record of 3-1 after a heartbreaking loss in the final minutes against Norfolk Academy. However, the Lady Falcons were back on track after mercy ruling Western Branch High School 9-0 this past Tuesday.

The Lady Falcons are still riding the momentum from last year’s state champion team. That team was led by a group of talented seniors this year’s team will surely miss. The winning mindset is still visually present in this year’s squad.

Senior captain Kylie Marx is confident that they are picking up where last year’s team left off.

“Our goal is to repeat and ‘We Will’ get that ring,” Marx said.

Along with many new changes, “We Will” is the mantra for the team brought in by the new coaching staff. The new staff will have some big shoes to fill after the departure of former head coach Julie Swaine.

Stepping in to fill those shoes is Alumnist Taylor Rountree. Rountree knows it’ll be tuff but is very excited about this upcoming year.

“It’s a huge honor to come back to Cox and coach and I feel blessed to be given this opportunity to work with such an amazing group of girls,” Rountree said.

This last week the Lady Falcons bested our cross town rival First Colonial in a 2-1 win. The Falcons take on the Lions of Tallwood next Tuesday October 17th at 4:00 PM. Come support the Falcons
