Falcon wrestling: continuing legacy

FALCON WRESTLERS BATTLED at the Virginia Duals this past weekend, ending 4-2.

Fresh off of a fourth place ranking, 4-2, at the prestigious Virginia Duals wrestling tournament this past weekend, the team will battle it out at home against Norview High School on Friday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m.

Friday’s match is also Alumni Night, where not only fans, but past wrestlers fill the stands to cheer on each contender as they grapple with opponents under the “spotlight”, blacking out the gym so only the two wrestlers are visible.  Last year’s “spotlight” Alumni Night boasted a packed house, reminiscent of years past and the state championship legacies that the program plans to rebuild and continue.

Senior Logan Watts is currently ranked #1 in the Beach District and has wrestled for the Falcons for the past four years, starting in 9th grade at 126 and now at 145 lbs.

“Individually, and as a team, it is important to keep the ball rolling and keep causing upsets, like last night against Tallwood, as well as the upsets against Hickory, and Grundy High Schools,” Watts said. “As a senior, I guess my goal would be to get to the top of the podium at districts, regionals, and at the state championship to show what I’ve worked hard all year for.”
