INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT SHEILA Magula chose sophomore Hunter Sim’s holiday card design to represent VBCPS.

Sophomore Art student Hunter Sim’s holiday design was recently chosen as the official holiday card for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS).  Interim Superintendent Dr. Sheila Magula personally awarded Sim with a framed print of her design, surprising Sim and the rest of the class in her Painting & Print Making class at the school this morning.

According to Magula, the holiday card is sent not only to school employees, but to VBCPS business partners and other state superintendents throughout the Commonwealth.

Each year, Art teacher Cathy Opfer assigns her students the task of designing and painting an original holiday card.  Opfer then submits the paintings into the VBCPS contest.

Sim’s festive design took the prize.

“I am completely shocked and honored. I’m not only surprised, but I’m excited that I have the ability to create this because right now, art is only a hobby for me,” Sims said.  “Now, I have no idea what I want to do with it [art].”
