Girls basketball attends pre-season play, Beach District Schools

The Lady Falcon basketball program once again will play under Head Coach Shannon Drury, who will return this year after she decided to take on the role last year. Drury is a Falcon alumnus  where she played on the basketball team for four years.  Drury then went on to play ball at the University of Miami.

Using knowledge from previous coaching experience, Drury decided that it would benefit this year’s team to attend a team camp. The camp was held at Kellam High School, right before the season, and provided baseline data about where the girls are as a unit during the preseason.

The camp itself, technically a fundraiser for their girls team, provided an opportunity for all the girls who attended to scrimmage other teams in the district and get a feel for the competition. Drury and Assistant Coach Ramone Snowden led the Lady Falcons, who played in three total games.

This year marks the first year in a long time that the team participated in pre-season conditioning, which was spear-headed by Snowden. In addition, the team met two to three times a week for conditioning, working on drills, dribbling, and good old fashion running to get in shape in preparation for their upcoming season.

“The team camp was a good opportunity to see where we can still improve, but I think it was a good experience for us as a team. We were just glad to be back on the court,” sophomore River Aman said.

The team is hoping to make steady progress this year as they have been working hard throughout the summer to further their game. Furthermore, this year will mark a new beginning for the girls as they hope to use the progress they’ve made towards their season.

According to senior Ramey Bower, the team has made tons of progress throughout the off-season and she feels that the team is ready to “show up”. She also looks forward to playing with all the girls again in her final season.
