Fantasy football reels in users, new season begins

This year’s National Football League (NFL) season began with the LA Rams vs. Buffalo Bills in a Thursday Night Football primetime game.

Fantasy Football users around the world are rebooting their leagues as the NFL season returns, and you can start one too.

Fantasy football is an online game where people gather their friends and create a league to draft NFL players and make their own “fantasy” football team. Leagues can be anywhere from 4-16 players. Above 16 players is possible, although it would not be ideal.

Every week these owners go head to head against rival owners, and the NFL players that are drafted accumulate points for their specific owners by scoring touchdowns, catching passes, and racking up yards either on the ground or through the air.

“What makes fantasy football so fun is that you’re able to compete against your friends, sit on the couch, and watch football,” senior Joe McGowan said.

Every year, fantasy football is one of the most anticipated activities among teenagers online. In fact, this hobby is so popular that there are over 40 million fantasy football users just in the United States. Users can start their own league for free on many different apps, such as “Yahoo Fantasy” or “ESPN Fantasy”.

“It’s exhilarating and you never know when one of your players is gonna pop off,” sophomore Maxwell Palmerton said.

There are almost 1,700 players in the NFL, and it is very hard to decide who to draft in your fantasy football league because of that. Choosing between players such as Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers, Cooper Kupp from the Los Angeles Rams, and Austin Ekeler from the Los Angeles Chargers can sometimes seem impossible.

A list of the top 50 fantasy football players has been created in order to help you know who to draft and when to draft them. There has been a lot of consideration put into this list, such as how many snaps these players will get, the workload they will receive, the production of players around them that will affect their performance, and how good their team is.
