Golf team places first at regionals, moves on to state

Falcon Golf putted their way to their best season in over a decade, as the team’s last regional and state victory was in 2007. This season the team boasts  a 10-3 record, losing only to a close match-up against Bayside, Hickory, and Kellam High Schools.  The golf team does consist of both male and female players and it was senior Emma Landis that took the lead, earning seven medals. Landis was followed by junior Collin Reed with two medals and senior Ryan Lemmon who earned one medal.  

 

What Happened: The team placed first at regionals, beating Bayside and Hickory High Schools, two schools they previously lost to during the regular season.  Falcons had a combined score of 315 , crushing the competition.

Key Players: Four of the Falcon golfers placed in the top 15 including: senior Emma Landis who placed second individually in regional play with a score of 73.  Junior Collin Reed placed 9th with a score of 79, while senior Ryan Lemmon placed 10th with a score of 81. Senior Robby Ruhl  placed 12th with a score of 82.

They said it: “We practiced more as a team, rather than individually and just tried to beat each other because that’s when we play our best,”  Landis said, “We went to the course everyday, we practiced at the regional course, and we focused a lot on team.”

Key moment: The team gets another shot at taking down Bayside and Hickory, who they had previously lost to, and is successful.

Up Next: The team travels Magnolia Green in Moseley, Virginia, to compete for the state title on Tuesday, October 15.
