Indoor track starts season with bang

COACH COOPER BROWNING and senior Jason Boynewicz give a thumbs up, excited to cheer on the fellow Falcon runners. The meet was the first meet of the indoor season.

The indoor track and field team for the Falcons started the season off with their first indoor meet last Thursday in Hampton.  Many athletes placed in the top 10 for each of their events and several earned personal bests.

What happened: The first meet of the season took place at Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, VA, on Thursday, Dec. 13, that included all schools in the Beach District.

Key Players:

The Falcons ran exceptionally well for their first meet of the indoor season.  Lady Falcons sophomores Ariana Coats and Caitlin Sullivan placed well in their events.  Coats placed 6th overall in the 1600m run and Sullivan finished 3rd in the 500m dash. On the boys’ side, junior Keontae Jenkins won the 55 m dash, the long, and triple jump.  Sophomore Lucas Wilson also placed in the top 5 in the 1000m run.  Seniors JaSean Curry and Nick Monsor both placed in the top 10 in the shot put.

They said it: “After weeks of training, the first meet of the season was rewarding to see where we each are at with our times,” senior Cayla Katz said.  “I think our team overall performed very well. We have a lot of new runners [on] the team. I was very proud of several runners who earned new [personal records] in their events.  I can’t wait for the rest of the season and to see even more improvement among our team!”

Key moments: The Falcons ran impressive races in each the distance, sprinting, jumping, and throwing events.
