“In the four years I’ve been a part of the Cox Band Program, I’ve felt that I’ve made an impact in many different ways to help better the program and the members as a whole. Whether it was bringing energy and fueling dedication on the field, or just sharing my love of music with others during rehearsals, I’ve felt that I’ve left an impact on others in the band, which has led to successful competitions, concerts, and other endeavors. While recruiting new members, I’ve always felt the need to set an example for others and encourage pride in the music we produce, as past alumni have done with me. In turn, members have seen greater success in their musical goals and have also gained a greater passion and appreciation for music as a whole. This has created a sense of community, and what we’ve created is truly something special. I know this community will keep standing strong long after I graduate. Our sense of unity is something I’ve heavily emphasized to newer members. Helping them fit in with the rest of the band has always been a top priority for me and has also been a colossal success. In terms of favorite memories, I’m not exactly sure which one is my favorite, as I’ve had so many great memories with this program. Obviously, the first competition I performed with the marching band holds a special place in my heart, but I know for certain that hearing that our band won the state championships this year was definitely my most cherished memory. It was awesome to see others’ joy after realizing that we were state champions, and seeing how everyone’s hard work truly paid off. Knowing everyone was giving it their best– their very best– brought immense joy to me, and that’s all I could really ask for.”
