Letters to the Editor: DACA

Dear Editor,

I strongly agree with the claim that President Trump should not end the DACA program, which is expressed by the author of this article. Children under the age of 15 cannot even make their own decisions. Many children were brought here illegally, yes, but by their parents. They did not make the decision to immigrate illegally in the U.S. They should not be penalized for a decision they did not make. If it isn’t already evident enough that these children do not deserve to be deported, they have to work hard to reap the benefits of the program. They have to pass several requirements and the program is not easy to obtain. Furthermore, these DACA particpants still have to pay income taxes, which is what helps pay for their own program. America was founded by a diverse group of hardworking people. Why go against our core values that have defined our country from the very start?

Dear Editor,

I believe that the DACA program should come to an end. I feel very strongly about this topic for many different reasons. To begin with, I don’t believe that anyone should be able to receive United States benefits unless he or she is a citizen. I don’t find it fair to those who worked hard to become citizens and are paying taxes to support this country. The DACA program offers an easy way for illegal immigrants to receive benefits and jobs in the United States, without paying the taxes that normal Americans pay. I understand that there is a set of principles that make it a little more difficult than walking across the border, but it is nowhere near what real citizens go through.

Dear Editor,

I strongly disagree with President Trump’s decision to end DACA. The people that will be directly affected by this decision inherently, in that they were able to qualify for the program, posed no threat to any American citizen or their way of life. In fact, many individuals hurt by this were considered to be, “American Dreamers,” and as stated in the article, steadfastly held to the American concept that, “Any person, regardless of background or origin, should be able to succeed, provided that they work hard enough.” The only person depicted doing anything un-American in this article is President Trump himself.

Dear Editor,

The DACA program has many benefits and gives a good life to kids that were brought here from other countries. Benefits like, being able to go to school, getting a job, and maybe even buying a house. However, it is clear to see that this program has some drawbacks. Some say it has a negative effect on the economy and it is harder to figure out who the actual American citizens are. The DACA program should stay, but it should undergo improvements to make it fair and efficient for everyone who wants to live in the United States. Our country should try it’s best to take in innocent children who deserve a good life, a life they wouldn’t find where they come from.
