Superintendent chooses students for conference

School representative senior Madeline Dowd and junior Catalina Perez joined Principal Randi Riesbeck recently at the Superintendent’s Students’ Advisory group, geared toward improvement in future years. Students from surrounding high schools were specifically chosen by the Superintendent to come together to focus on the three goals to pitch to the School Board by the end of this school year.

“It was really such an interesting experience and I can’t wait to keep meeting periodically.” Dowd said.

The keynote speaker was Channel 3 news anchor Kurt Williams, who spoke to students about leadership and making change. Throughout the speech he called up students with exceptional interest in helping the community.

“I was really surprised when I was called up as a model student, it was an honor.” Dowd said.
Student groups came together and built discussions about student-teacher relationships, student voice, and instructional practices.

These same student groups will meet regularly throughout the year in hopes of evoking positive changes within our school system and community through their student perspective.
