Three CHS seniors earned their teaching contracts for Virginia Teacher For Tomorrow (VTFT) II earlier this month. All three students completed internships through the VTFT II program at local elementary schools to ensure their success in the future.
The idea is that once students have completed a four-year program at a college or university, they are able to come back to VBCPS to become a teacher. And, although some of these student winners do not return to teach, several have and are thankful for the VTfT contract that was awarded to them previously.
Katherine Sager: Sager will attend the University of Virginia (UVA) for elementary education. She interned at John B. Dey (JBD) for VTFT II. Sager helped in the John B. Dey Elementary Day of Service event, earning the 1st place title in the EdRising state competition for “Inside our Schools”. She is also the senior class president and enjoys playing golf.
Rachel Fox: Fox will attend James Madison University (JMU) for elementary education. Throughout her years at the school, she has earned the title of Student Activity Coordinator (SCA) president and won 2nd place in the EdRising state competition for her speech about why she decided she wanted to become a teacher in the first place. She focused on how the Virginia Beach Community supported her after her brother, Dalton passed away from childhood cancer a few years ago. Fox completed her internship at Trantwood Elementary School.
“Receiving the contract from VBCPS and VTFT is something that I am extremely proud of and I can not thank both VBCPS and VTFT . . . ,” Fox said. ” Being able to have a job when I graduate college is such an amazing opportunity, and I know that teaching is what I am meant to do.”
Will Slevin: Slevin will attend the University of Tennessee and in his senior year, earned the title of 2024 SCA president. He also interned at John B. Dey Elementary School and won 1st place in the EdRising State Competition with Sager. His major is undecided as of now.
