DFeet Cancer, Dalton Dash Foundation welcomes Falcon soccer volunteers

FALCON GIRLS SOCCER ready themselves to cheer on participants at the Dalton Fox Foundation DFeet Cancer run; the boys team joined them later to volunteer. The foundation’s purpose is to fight pediatric cancer. (Santo Ripa)

It was pouring rain and fairly chilly for a mid-May weekend, when both the girls and boys Falcon varsity soccer teams met at the volunteer spot near Trantwood Elementary School to act as course marshals for the DFeet Cancer run, an annual event that fundraises for the Dalton Fox Foundation; proceeds go to fighting pediatric cancer.

Last weekend, once both teams checked in, race organizers put the teams into groups and sent them to assigned stations strategically mapped out along the course to act as court marshals for participants. Their job duty was to guide runners in the right direction while cheering them on and to keep them “hype” as they battled the pouring rain in hopes of reaching the finish line.

While the girls team has participated in the event for a roughly three years, it was the boys’ first time volunteering.

“It was a fun event because both teams were involved and it was for a great cause,” sophomore Nate Wallace said.

Falcon soccer has supported the Fox family, whose oldest daughter attends the school, as well as the Dalton Dash Foundation, encouraging students and the community to involve themselves by volunteering to work, support and fundraise to fight pediatric cancer.
