As winter ends, Falcon winter sports seasons also end; but not before wrestling brought home their first state championship since 2010 and the boys basketball team continues regional play. Spring sports such as baseball, softball, girls and boys soccer, track & field, lacrosse and tennis, however, will now move to the forefront as tryouts begin this week.
Falcon student-athletes currently hold 50+ state championships and baseball and boys soccer added to this total last season. Both teams are looking to repeat their successes in hopes of back-to-back state championships.
“This is my favorite time of year, as it’s finally softball season. Throughout fall and winter conditioning I’ve watched these girls work so diligently in preparation for tryouts and I’m hopeful to see it finally pay off for them,” Varsity Softball Head Coach Lily Moresco said. “Building a program is not an easy task and the team made significant progress last season as we look to continue that success and pick up right where we left off.”
Baseball and Boys and Girls lacrosse began on Monday, Feb. 19, while softball, tennis and both boys and girls soccer began after school on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Track and Field tryouts, however, will begin at the end of February.
During the fall and winter, students spend their time attending football and basketball games, but as the weather warms and students become eager to get outside, they look forward to attending spring sports games, meets and matches.
“Although I really enjoyed going to all the basketball games during the winter, I can’t wait to show up and support sports like soccer and softball,” senior Aiden New said.
