Fall sports take on post season competition

Falcon fall sports seasons are coming to a close in the next month of November. Many teams have exceeded regular season expectations and are looking forward to regional and state success. All teams are headed to regionals in the next few weeks.

Football

Varsity football has a season record of 6-3 after consecutive wins against Tallwood and Green Run. Since losing to Princess Anne, the falcons had to win each game in order to keep playoff hopes alive. Heading into their final regular season game against Salem, the team clinched spot in postseason competition. The first game of the postseason is set for Friday, Nov. 15, at 7:00 pm with the opponent and location TBD. 

Cross Country

Cross Country ranks #1 in Region 5A for the girls and #5 for the boys team. The girls are considered to be one of the best teams in school history according to Coach Lanny Doan. On the boys’ side, the team has steadily climbed up the regional ranks. Both teams have earned top three finishes at multiple invitationals and are looking towards continuing their season at the region and state meets. The regional championship is on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11:00 at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.

Field Hockey

Varsity field hockey had an undefeated regular season with a record of 10-0. They beat rival Patriots convincingly in the Region Semifinals and then won the Regional Title by a score of 1-0, snapping Gloucester’s 40 game win streak. With the title, the Falcons clinched a spot in the state tournament. The team has high hopes to bring another state championship back to Falcon Country. 

Girls Volleyball

Girls Volleyball ranks fourth overall in the 5A region with a 18-5 regular season record. The team placed first at the Endless Summer Tournament and seventh at the Richmond Tournament. The regional tournament takes place Nov. 9-13 with the first game of the tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9, against Hickory with location TBD.

Boys Volleyball

Boys Volleyball is a top ranked team in the region with an impressive regular season record of 21-2. The team has been competitive in every match and carries positive momentum into postseason play. The regional tournament takes place Nov. 9-13 with their first game against Princess Anne on Saturday, Nov. 9 with location TBD.

Golf

Falcon Golf finished the season with 10-3 record and a regional title. The team competed at the state championship on Oct. 28 at the Heritage Oaks Golf Course. Senior Emma Landis placed 13th overall in the 5A state tournament. The first year under coach David Mackey was a step in the right direction for the golf program.
