Track runs into post-season

DISTANCE TRACK RUNNERS stride around the curve. The Falcons had their last regular season meet last Thursday.

The Indoor Track Team finished their regular season and are now preparing for the post-season meets in next few weeks.  The top three runners in each event will run at the regional meet in hopes of advancing to the state meet in late February.

What happened: The Falcon runners ended their regular season meet on Thursday, Jan. 31, at Boo Williams Sportsplex against Ocean Lakes, Kellam, Princess Anne, Kempsville, Tallwood, Salem, and Green Run High Schools.

Key Players: Junior Keontae Jenkins placed in the top five for both the 55m and 300m dash.  Sophomores Caitlin Sullivan and Morgan McKinley finished in the fourth and fifth overall in the 500m dash.  

They said it: “Postseason is much harder and more intense in competition,” assistant coach Cooper Browning said. “Our goal is to get the 4 x 8 relay to states and to have personal records from all of our runners.”

Key moments: Many Falcon runners broke personal records in their specialized events.  Standout sprinter Keontae Jenkins placed  high in the sprinting events.

Up next:  The top three Falcon runners for each event will advance to the Regional competition.  The 6A Regional events will take place Friday, Feb. 8 – Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
