SENIOR WILL PEARCE gives the thumbs up after donating blood at the annual Red Cross Blood Drive today in the auditorium.

Students entered the auditorium in groups of three and four ready to donate for the cause. This wasn’t a typical cause they were supporting.  They weren’t giving their money or material gifts, rather they were giving their blood and they came out in full force to give their blood for the cause.

The Red Cross Blood Drive event was held in the auditorium on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. for anyone willing to donate their blood or their time.

According to redcross.org, American Red Cross emergency response teams have sponsored blood drives since the 1940s, supplying about 40 percent of the world’s blood supply and is used to help any patient in need. In recent years, the group has also tapped into the charitable nature of high school students across the nation.

Junior Kimberly Navarro chose not to donate, but rather volunteer her time to work at the event.

“I volunteered because I think it’s great to help out the community and it’s a good opportunity to help others in need,” Navarro said.
