Boys tennis brings the racket
New players bring new hope for the upcoming season.
The Boys Tennis Team is ready for an exciting season. With new additions, the team now has a total of 16 players, consisting of six returners from last year and ten new players.
Head Coach Kathy Courage has coached this team for nine years and is now in her second year as head coach.
“This is the biggest and most talented boys team we’ve had in a number of years,” Courage said.
Returning sophomore captain Cameron Fraser hopes to enter the season with a positive attitude and set a good example for the other players. He is determined to get the team as far as possible.
“Hopefully we can get to states this year,” Fraser said. “I plan on practicing as much as possible and pulling out close matches. I’m going to do whatever I can to help us win.”
Courage is looking forward to seeing how the team will develop and improve themselves this season. Individually, almost all of the players have been taking private tennis lessons in order to prepare. They will also be playing as much as possible to get “match tough.”
“They are a competitive group, so this is a good way to give everyone an opportunity to prove and improve themselves,” Courage said.
The talented new players and improved skills of those returning contributes to the excitement for the new season.
Senior captain Matt Tuckman hopes to work hard to win conference play, districts, regionals, and hopefully states. As a captain his goal is to help the team by setting a good example at practice.
“I am going to show the other players that hard work pays off. I will make sure everyone is always pushing their limits so we improve,” Tuckman said.
The team is excited for the new season and is ready to work hard to win.
“We have a very deep team,” Courage said. “My overall goal for this season is to win Conference and Regions. How we are going to achieve that is to practice, practice, practice, and try to stay healthy.”
