Leave it on the court

New Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach J.P. Jones and the girl’s team is shooting to win this season.

In hopes of a winning season, the school hired Jones as the new head coach. Perhaps this will allow the team to find new focus, as well as added motivation to become better than past seasons.

Although the girls have started the season with a record of 1-3, Jones and the girls hope to change the face of the Lady Falcons Basketball team.

“We are working hard together to build a lasting foundation of fundamentals and skills to create a culture of hard work, fun, and competitiveness,” Jones said.

The long hours of practices, in which the team spends time rebounding, shooting, and press and break drills seem to be paying off. The players feel more confident on and off the court because their practices are more relevant for actual game play.

Junior Captain Emma Johnson is a third year starter and has had four new coaches in three years.

“The changing of coaches has really taught us a lot on and off the court. I think our new coach is going to be really good and help us improve a lot,” Johnson said.

Led by juniors Johnson, Chloe Obara, and senior Captain Megan Hollifield, the girls know that overnight success isn’t a reality. But, overall they seem to be happier and more positive playing with a new coach.

“Last game we really played more as a team which helped us beat the press easier and everyone is a team player so we get the best opportunities possible,” Johnson said.

Overall though, Jones and the girls know this season is about rebuilding and trying to live and play by the team motto.

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,” Obara reiterated.
