The annual Key Club blood drive took place on Friday, March 13, in the school’s gymnasium. Key Club worked in conjunction with its sponsor, the Red Cross, and they collect blood from students, teachers, and people of the community to donate blood to those in need.
According to the Red Cross website, every pint saves three lives, and blood collected goes to local hospitals, which is given to patients in need, positively impacting lives.
The club’s goal was to collect 35 pints. In total, they surpassed their goal and collected 46 pints.
“The reason I have the Key Club volunteer at blood drives is that at the age of five, I was in a boating accident, and what saved me was blood. I vowed that I would do the same of what someone did for me. So, I try to give blood each year, and if I don’t, I run the blood drive, which I’ve done for the last nine years. We truly did make a difference in this world on Friday. I am very proud of how everyone stepped up, especially without the use of phones. I’m proud of our student body, teachers, and all we were able to do. The Red Cross also said how we were the best oiled machine,” Key Club sponsor Maria Faircloth said.
After more than a decade of successful blood drives held at the school, it is certain that donated blood has saved lives, and there is no doubt that recipients are immensely grateful.
