SOPHOMORE NATE WALLACE plays Among Us with friends. Wallace is one of many who sees the game as an entertaining way to spend their time.

A newly popular video game has started to circulate among high schoolers. The game, “Among Us” is, for the most part, a murder mystery game with 8 – 15 people where you’re either selected as a crewmate or one of two impostors. Crewmates have to either vote to kick the Imposters from the game or complete all their given tasks to win the game. If the Imposters eliminate all the crewmates before they finish their tasks or trick other crewmates into voting for each other, the Imposters Win.

Among Us was released five years ago and only recently has it hit a new surge of players, especially at our school. The popularity of the game is very polarizing with students.

“Among Us betters the mind because you’re using detective skills to find the imposter and win,” junior Braden Lyons said.

The rise of “Among Us” is polarizing, many people find the game harmless while others think it may be a distraction. But no matter what one’s opinion may be, it’s clear that the game is making waves with students.

“The game is great because when we play the game we’ve already completed our work, and having that urge to play motivates you to complete work faster and be more diligent with your learning,” junior Cole Ludford said.
