NEW PRINCIPAL DR. Kelly gives us a glimpse at of his life away from school. This is Buck.

Hello Falcons,

I am Dr. Kelly, the new principal of Frank W. Cox High School, and I would like to welcome you to “The Nest!” You are joining a student body with a rich tradition of excellence in academics, athletics and the arts. I look forward to each of you contributing in your own way to continue this tradition over the next four years.

So that you may know me a little better, I was born in western Canada, but moved to the United States when I was in my junior year of high school. As such, I can relate to the experiences you are having now coming to a new school. I was able to acclimate to my new school by getting involved in a variety of sports and activities. I encourage you to do the same here at Cox, as it will make your high school experience that much more enjoyable.

After attending college in the Pittsburgh area, (Go Steelers!) I moved to Virginia Beach to become a teacher. I taught for 8 years at the middle school level, as well as being a coach for wrestling and baseball. I then became a school administrator, and was the principal of Lynnhaven Middle School for six years. After this, I began teaching at the college level, most recently teaching students how to become school administrators for Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) On July 1st of this year I was honored to be named the principal here at Cox. Go Falcons!

Both my daughters attended and graduated from Cox HS, so I know the school and community well. My wife Amy and I have been married for 25 years, and lived in this community for the last 23 years. Just this last week decided to foster a Panda Shepherd puppy named Buck, whom we helped rescue from a shelter in North Carolina. You may see Buck at a few sporting events this year!
I look forward to meeting each of you as the year progresses. Please do not be afraid to say hello when you see me in the halls, classrooms, and at events. I am excited about the year to come, and I hope you are as well!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kelly
