Members of the Falcon Key Club spent their time picking up trash along the boardwalk and bike path at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront last weekend, from 24th Street to 31st Street.
The event was a part of a bigger mission sponsored by Clean Virginia Waterways.
According to the non-profit’s website, the mission of Clean Virginia Waterways (CVW) is to enhance the health of Virginia’s waterways through collaborative leadership, plastic pollution, marine debris prevention, and advocacy for a sustainable future.
Stations had been set up to accomplish this ginormous task along all 82 streets of Oceanfront. The event was successful, drawing students and locals out to work together on an important initiative. At the end of the event, everyone was treated to Doughboys Pizza via donation.
Sophomore Wyatt German is a dedicated Key Club member for the Falcons and was in attendance for this event.
“It was really awesome to see the whole community come together,” German said. “The event reached hundreds of people who may not know each other, but all came together to support this great cause.”
Key Club plans to make this an annual event, hoping to make each year more impactful for our ocean.
