It’s the time of year when school spirit is high, the year is new, and students have high hopes and renewed energy.
One of the most recent high-spirit events inJanuary was the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) fundraiser, where students were offered the opportunity to take three chances to make a shot from half court for the chance to win free Moe’s Restaurant for an entire year. Three shots only cost students $5.
The event was held during One Lunch, allowing all students to fraternize with friends they might not normally see. From varsity basketball players to those who have barely touched a basketball, everyone had the opportunity to step up, hoping to make the shot and walk away with a free year of Mexican food.
As each person lined up, the gym went quiet. Everyone wanted the prize, but by the end of the block, juniors Kai Reighard, Trevor Eubanks, and sophomore Grayson Lake were the ones who nailed the shots, winning the grand prize.
Friends went crazy in the bleachers while teachers and staff watched from the sidelines. The energy in the gym was hype, unlike a regular school day.
Whether students walked away with free burritos for a year or just bragging rights, the half-court challenge created memories people will remember long after the last shot. The event remains a tradition that brings the school together.
