When the holiday season begins, streaming services such as Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, etc, often release new shows and movies while also adding more episodes of shows already in season. This year is no different.
Holidays are a time to ‘catch-up,’ and relax, so many people head to movie theaters to watch much-anticipated new movies and series sequels to maintain the nostalgia of simpler times.
One of the much-anticipated holiday movies in theaters is Wicked: For Good, the sequel to Wicked, which premiered in late November and was also made into a musical. The musical won two Oscars in March and other major accolades, including Cinematic and Box Office awards at the Golden Globes. The two movies provide an accurate backstory that emphasizes the development of the iconic characters in The Wizard of Oz.
Another highly anticipated movie shown in theaters is Zootopia’s sequel, Zootopia 2, which was also released in late November. This movie is family-friendly, suitable for all ages, and could easily be added as a holiday must-see. The movie will likely play through mid-January, then be streamed through Disney+ + and other streaming services.
There are many theaters nearby CHS, popular ones being the AMC theater at Lynnhaven Mall and the Regal Strawbridge Marketplace. Theaters will also offer many more notable movies like Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and Avatar Fire and Ash.
Days off with family seem to be the perfect time to relax and unwind without hitting the theater and the crowds. Those who aren’t as interested in braving the elements and the masses during the holidays can choose to sit on their couch, popcorn in hand, watching older movies and new or final seasons of their favorite shows.
One of the best options might be the long-awaited final season of “Stranger Things,” which released its first four episodes (Volume 1) in late November. The series has been around since 2016, beginning its run with a young group of friends uncovering secrets and discovering a parallel dimension known as¨The Upside Down.” Created by the Duffer brothers, the Netflix Original Series has earned 12 Primetime Emmy Awards and multiple MTV Movie & TV awards. Full of plot twists and surprises over the past years, the show has almost become an addiction.
And for the people who prefer a different genre, the options streaming services provide are endless. Romance, mystery, comedy, horror, and true crime are just a click away.
