Journeying “together”
The Girls Varsity Soccer team is starting off stronger than ever this year. With an impressive line-up mixed with returning players as well as new players, the team expects another outstanding season.
Led by Head Coach Michele Clark, the team has reached state championship play consecutively in past seasons. The girls have started the season with a 6-2-1 record and will begin conference play in May. Already defeating key rivals such as Cosby, Hickory, and First Colonial High Schools, they won’t let up the pressure anytime soon.
Senior Captain Caroline Dugas is impressed by the team’s hard work and knows what it takes to get to the top.
“We’re starting out a lot stronger than we usually do,” Dugas said. “Our goal for this season is to bring home the state trophy. We always get to the tournament, but this year we want to win it all.”
The recipe for success this season will include a strong skill set, superior fitness, heart, and a well-bonded team. The girls form long lasting friendships both on and off the field and readily admit that the team is like a family.
Junior forward Alex Davidson is in her third season with the team and agrees that the girls’ bond is one of the key ingredients for this team’s success.
“We’re all pretty close and everyone is so sweet,” Davidson explains. “When we step on the field, if you mess with one of us, then you’ve messed with all of us. It’s like having 25 sisters and I love it.”
