RING OF HONOR displayed to recognize athletic programs.

The Cox High School Heritage committee recently hung the new ‘Hall of Honor’, which now lines the hallway coming off the gym foyer.  Historically, the “Ring of Honor” was housed in the Stuart R. Holland Gymnasium as a tribute to any student who earned First Team All-State as a member of a Virginia High School League (VHSL) team or won an individual State title in VHSL sponsored athletics and activities.

Currently, each VHSL sponsored sport and activity has its own perpetual plaque to house the names of these students of distinction.  Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Michele Clark and Student Activities Coordinator Jessica Horning are working diligently to find the names of every individual throughout the school’s history who were awarded First Team All-State as a member of a VHSL athletic team or who won an individual State title in VHSL sponsored athletics.

The distinctions are also for those students in VHSL activities such as Chorus, Orchestra, Band, One-Act Play, Debate, and Forensics.

Any school alumnus who has earned one of these distinctions are asked to contact Horning or Clark at [email protected] or [email protected]  or to contact Cox High School @ 757-648-5250.

Recently updated, the school’s shiny, new “Ring of Honor” plaques now line the Physical Education hallways.  Historically, the “Ring of Honor” was housed in the Stuart R. Holland Gymnasium as a tribute to any student who earned a First Team All-State title or an individual All-State title.  Now, each sport has its own plaque. But, the distinctions are not only limited to athletics. Chorus, Orchestra, Band, One-Act Play, Debate, and Forensics are also represented.

The project originated with former Principal Brian Matney, but Student Activities Coordinator Jessica Horning and teacher and Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Michele Clark were key in the transition and development of the more modern “Ring of Honor”.

Although all the plaques are not currently filled, Horning and Clark are working diligently to find the names of every individual throughout the school’s history who were awarded a First Team All-State or individual All-State title.

Any former title holders are asked to contact Horning or Clark at [email protected] or [email protected].
