Tucked into a corner of Hilltop Shopping Center, Bonchon has quickly become a go-to spot for students craving crispy Korean fried chicken with bold flavor.
According to the restaurant’s website, Bonchon has grown into a worldwide chain focused on sharing Korean comfort food with communities across the globe. Known for its signature double-fried technique, the restaurant promises extra crunch — and it delivers.
To see if the hype was real, the review crew, seniors Jacob Palmerton, Rex Miller, and Vance DeLashmutt, ordered the Korean BBQ and Yangnyeom wings along with seasoned fries and rice. From the first bite, the wings stood out. The crew praised the crispy exterior, flavorful glaze, and satisfying texture, rating both flavors around an 8 out of 10. The Yangnyeom brought a spicy kick, while the Korean BBQ offered a slightly sweeter, savory balance.
The sides, however, didn’t leave the same impression. The rice was described as underwhelming, and the seasoned fries were considered average compared to the standout wings.
Service was steady overall. The chicken arrived quickly and hot, though the fries followed noticeably later. The waiter remained attentive, regularly checking on the table and refilling water glasses without being asked.
The interior adds to the experience, featuring a modern and relaxed atmosphere with enough seating for any friend group to gather after school or on weekends.
Overall, the crew agreed that Bonchon lives up to its reputation for quality chicken and bold flavor. While the sides may not steal the spotlight, the wings alone make it easy to see why customers, including local students, keep coming back.
