Students and staff from CHS, Princess Anne, and Kellam High Schools joined forces this year to make a difference in the lives of local children through the 22nd Annual Love Run benefiting Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD).
A dedicated committee consisting of teachers and students from the three schools spent months planning, organizing, and promoting the event. Their shared goal was simple: spread the love and encourage as many community members as possible to participate in a cause that directly supports children and families in need.
The Love Run, held annually at Thalia Elementary School, allows participants to run, walk, or simply cheer on friends and family. This year’s event featured live music from a local school band, adding energy and excitement to the morning. Local businesses also played a key role by sponsoring the event through monetary donations and contributions for food and gift basket raffles.
All funds raised from the Love Run are donated to CHKD, helping provide critical medical services for children across the region. Each year, a special child is selected to represent the event and remind participants of the cause they are supporting. This year, however, the run/walk held an especially personal meaning. The event was dedicated to two Falcon faculty members whose child required specialized services that only CHKD could provide.
Last year, organizers successfully met their fundraising goal through community support and additional fundraisers. Inspired by that achievement, this year’s committee raised the bar by $5,000. Although the final total has not yet been announced, organizers remain optimistic.
“The sense of community felt even more profound this year,” said Mrs. Shumate. “While Kellam High School is a more recent addition to the planning committee, their involvement has truly solidified over the past few years, leading to a much more cohesive and well-organized event. The increased support from administration was also a significant highlight that helped drive our success.”
As students, teachers, families, and local sponsors await the final fundraising total, one thing is already clear: the Love Run continues to bring schools and the broader community together in support of children who need it most.
