Valentine’s Day is a holiday often associated with chocolates and romantic dinners. But across Hampton Roads, the holiday also includes community events and local fundraisers. Whether planning a date, time with friends, or individual plans, one can find a range of events that recognize the holiday.
The day can begin with a community fundraiser. Since 2004, three Virginia Beach Public Schools have come together to host a 5k run/walk/row to benefit the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. The event takes place at Thalia Elementary at 9 a.m. on February 14.

Following the morning race, several venues are hosting themed brunch events. One event is The Queen of Hearts Valentine’s Brunch, held at Blue Pete’s Restaurant in Virginia Beach from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A tea service and a buffet inspired by Alice in Wonderland is featured.

Throughout the afternoon, local businesses that offer Valentine’s merchandise can be visited. The Virginia Beach Farmers Market includes vendors, crafts, jewelry, soaps, and other Valentine’s-themed goods. In the VIBE District, shops such as The Mermaid Factory, Leland Florist, and Beads and Rocks are open for shoppers looking for holiday related gifts.
As the sun sets, restaurants across Hampton Roads are preparing dinner service on February 14. For meat or seafood lovers, Heirloom offers many dishes. The Becca Restaurant & Garden offers bistro-style cuisine at the Cavalier Hotel. Lastly, Orion’s Roof features Asian fusion dishes, including seafood and sushi.
From morning fundraisers to evening dining, local organizations across Hampton Roads are hosting events in recognition of Valentine’s Day. For further event details, go to companies of websites or call venues.
