Two Falcon rowers, senior Harry Hayes and sophomore Shay Triepel, along with a standout performance from the entire club, won gold medals at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Competition state championship in early May at the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax, Virginia, both bringing home multiple medals in both individual and team events. This regatta is a qualifier for competition at the national level.
According to a press release issued by Coastal Virginia Community Rowing (CVCR), the club is a non-profit Partner in Education with VBCPS and VB Parks and Recreation, which ensures access to rowable water in the area. The club’s mission is to expand interest in rowing in Southeastern Virginia
Hayes and Triepel, captured gold medals in the men’s single (M1x) and women’s junior single event (WJr1x), respectively, showcasing power and precision with commanding performances on the water and cementing dominance in the singles category. Qualifying at this regatta allows athletes to move on to national competition an to compete at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia, PA, which is the largest Scholastic Rowing competition in the world with more than 5,000 athletes participating.
