NAWAB Indian cuisine is the latest spot in the “squad” food reviews. Busy schedules make it difficult at times to meet so we added a special guest, senior Nico Seifert, a.k.a “the General”, along with
As none of us had ever eaten at NAWAB before “the General” was the only one with insight into the menu. We all agreed that raw reviews are usually the best so we rolled with it.
NAWAB is a local Indian food restaurant located at Hilltop off First Colonial Rd. in Virginia Beach. The restaurant itself has a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere that provides its guests with great service and a quiet dining experience. It is a family-style venue for those looking to indulge in Indian cuisine. As there are a only few Indian restaurants in the Great Neck area, NAWAB is the king of the industry.
NAWAB is known for their Tikka Masala, Buttered Chicken, and Punjabi Curry, which packs in the flavor. NAWAB offers much more than these popular menu items, such as assorted breads, salmon makhni, and vegetable pakora. If Indian-style cuisine is not desired, there are plenty of other traditional items. Another unique feature of NAWAB is that after ordering, they give the customer the choice of spice level with their food. This scale’s range is from 1-5; the boys decided on level 3 heat which is hot but not too crazy.
The review team went into the restaurant with limited knowledge. The table was full of assorted bread, buttered chicken, tikka masala, and vegetable pakora. To top it off was an assortment of beverages known as Lassis and a Blue Lagoon.
The food was sadly not all the group thought it would be. On the review scale, the entrees got the lowest scores in Falcon Food Review history. This doesn’t mean the food wasn’t good, but consensus was it wasn’t the most appetizing. The review team prides themselves on honest assessments of the restaurants they go to, and sadly NAWAB was not a hit.
Other than some issues with the food, the overall dining experience was entertaining. It is a great spot to go to for groups of people as menu items can be shared. The service was speedy as well; waiters made sure our waters were topped off and checked the food was cooked correctly.
To reiterate, NAWAB is a great local spot. The review team makes up a small sample size of taste buds, and the Indian style cuisine was good, but not as good as other places the team has been. Having been to all the best restaurants in the surrounding area, NAWAB is up there, but not in the top percent of spots the crew has been to.
Whether looking for fine dining, a relaxing place to eat, or trying something new, NAWAB caters to all. If craving Indian food, we highly recommend NAWAB and all it has to offer.
