It’s no secret that the Falcon Varsity Baseball team is widely known as one of the most competitive teams in the 757 and Virginia. Head Coach Matt Ittner, who has been at the school since 2018, has built a successful program that offers players training, clinics, and practices year-round.
After a disappointing end to last season, the Falcons look to return to the state championship and compete for another title.
This year’s team is built differently though, relying on their core seniors and upcoming juniors. The Falcons lost a few big pieces last year and are considered an ‘under-the-radar’ team because of graduation. The hope is that the players who did graduate will be replaced with a new standard this coming season.
Many juniors may find themselves in field positions that were once foreign to them, but the ability to make the switch under pressure will be detrimental to the team’s success this season.
Junior Hank Brown will lead the charge for the underclassmen and should be a pivotal bat in what is to be a powerful Falcons lineup. Six out of eight senior players have already committed to their [respective] schools for baseball, providing a strong lineup of hard-working leaders.
“I think this is one of the better teams we have when considering our leadership with the seniors. Based on the combined skills of our juniors and seniors, I like to compare this team to our 2020 team,” Ittner said.
