The Falcon’s girls’ basketball team has turned some heads this season with a noticeable improvement over past years. With five remaining games, the girls, now 6-10, are eager to continue boosting the program within the Beach District.
Though the record might not show it, the Lady Falcons fell only a few points short against teams like Hickory, Landstown, and Great Bridge High Schools making them only points away from becoming an 8-4 team.
“The switch to a new sport that I haven’t played before has been challenging yet fun. The team has taken me under their wing, and I believe I have tapped into a different type of athleticism that will only enhance my performance in other fields of play,” senior Erma Bailey said. “Our team is pretty close-knit which is a big help, and I think if we can clean up some flaws, we have a chance to create something unique.”
One of their most important games came against rival First Colonial High School, where they took it to them at their place. In the last meeting between the two teams, CHS took the “W” by 11 points, but the most recent game came down to the last few minutes. The Falcons snuck out alive, winning by five, with a late-game three-pointer to seal the deal and win the game.
