What Happened: The state champion Falcon wrestlers attended the Richmond Invitational and Old Dominion Cup wrestling tournaments over winter break. Within both tournaments, several wrestlers went undefeated and won the bracket in their [respective] weight class. The team won both tournaments, winning by five team points in the Richmond Invitational and outscoring their opponents 310-59 in the Old Dominion Cup Tournament.
Key player: Junior Karl Ludwig won his weight class, 150 pounds, by pinning all of his opponents at the Richmond Invitational. Because of his dominance on the mat, Ludwig only wrestled for 7 minutes 43 seconds throughout the entire tournament.
“I work hard during practice so I can have moments like this when it counts the most,” Ludwig said.
Up next: The Falcons will compete in the annual Virginia Duals Tournament in the toughest division, where they hope to face Great Bridge High School in the finals. The event will be held on Friday, Jan. 10 – Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Hampton Coliseum.
