The Falcons hosted the Salem Sun Devils on Friday, October 25, for this year’s Senior Night. Before Friday, the Sun Devils held a record of 6-1, while the Falcons had the same record. The local news was covering the game as it determined 5A rankings.
The Falcons started off strong with a 21-7 lead over the Sun Devils at halftime, with touchdowns from sophomore Tyree Jefferies and Max Palmerton. The Falcons never took their foot off the gas, scoring again coming right out of the half.
Although the Sun Devils responded with a second touchdown, the Falcons refused to quit and combated their score with another touchdown by junior Kai Reighard. As the scoreboard stood at 35-14, the Falcons appeared in good shape. But, after a successful onside kick from the Sun Devils, they were able to march down the field and put it in the endzone which brought the score to 35-28, and now only a one-score game.
The Falcons kept up their drive, putting the nail in the coffin, with Palmerton scoring back-to-back touchdowns making it 49-28. The Sun Devils made one last attempt to put some more points on the board, and although they were successful, it wasn’t enough to secure the victory, leaving the final score as 49-35.
Aside from the action-packed game, the Falcons welcomed this year’s graduating seniors as they walked down the track escorted by family members so each could be recognized for the years they dedicated to their [respective] sport. Seniors from the Falcon football team, golf team, and field hockey team participated in this ceremony and each was awarded a t-shirt and certificate.
Senior Night overall was a major success, not only for the triumphant victory over Salem but for the recognition of inspiring this year’s senior class .
The Falcons, now sitting at a sold winning record of 7-1, travel to Princess Anne High School to take on the Cavaliers on Friday, November 1, at 7 p.m.
