The Falcon Golf program began its season with a rough start and an 8-3 record. While the team has generally stayed consistent over the years in regard to wins and losses, Head Coach Bill Stachelski, and his superstar team plan to up the ante this season.
The team, which consists of both boys and girls, does not have an actual home course at the school. Matches are played at various courses around Virginia Beach such as VB National, Red Wing, Stumpy Lake, and Kempsville Greens.
A few of the team’s leaders include seniors Blake Heselius and Ben Kablach, who have been consistent golfers for the team for the past years; while senior Paul Arthur Roth leads his class with a match average of 73. Juniors Barrett Pendergast, Peyton McDonald and Vance Bartley also add their expertise to the effort.
Overall, the team’s confidence is a bit shaky due mostly to the rocky start, but they are looking to capitalize on the rest of the season.
“The goal is to win the region and contend for the state title,” Pendergast said.
In their most recent match against the Stallions of Green Run and the Chiefs of Kempsville, sophomore Maddox Johnson shot an impressive 75 to bring home a Falcon win against the Stallions, but took a devastating loss to the Chiefs with an overall score of 325-316.
The Falcons played their most recent match at Kempsville Greens Golf Course against Landstown and Princess Anne High Schools, which unfortunately ended in more losses.
