Senior night festivities include jersey dedication, honor teachers

The senior ceremony takes place at the last home game of the regular season. This year, the Falcons have the unique experience of facing off against their rivals of First Colonial during the special game.  Seniors from the Football, Cheer, and Coquette teams are escorted onto the field by a parent or guardian at halftime and recognized for their hard work and dedication to their respective sports.

Senior football players are recognized in several ways, but a new, as of last school year, CHS tradition, helps them acknowledge the people who helped them get to where they are.

Varsity Football Assistant Coach Noe took on the project and has since run with the idea.  For the past two years, Noe has asked the senior players to dedicate a jersey with their number to a teacher that has impacted their lives or careers thus far.

“As teachers, we’re really lucky to have such great student-athletes in our classes who appreciate the guidance that teachers can offer. It’s an honor to have students recognize us in this way,” English 12 teacher Erin Tonelson said.

On Thursday morning, the players surprised teachers with their jerseys, moving classroom to classroom together as a team. The teachers will represent each player by wearing the jersey at school on Friday and to the game that evening.

Senior Jordan Cooper dedicated his jersey to his English teacher Mrs. Erskine. Cooper thanked Mrs. Erskine for “being a great teacher”.
