Falcon baseball hosts champions league game
The Varsity Baseball program hosted a game for the Great Neck Champions League at Tilley Field this weekend. The Great Neck Champions League is an outlet for children who come from less fortunate circumstances, but still want to play in a baseball league. As Great Neck is a feeder area for the ‘Nest’, this is a perfect way to show support for the younger generation and future Falcons.
Falcon players attended the game with a special purpose, which was to mentor the younger players. Furthermore, each of the Great Neck Champion League players were assigned a partner, one of the CHS players, who guided them throughout the game.
The high school athletes took turns assisting the younger kids in areas such as running bases, playing catch before the game, and hitting the ball off of a tee.
“These families live a chaotic and stressful life. It was rewarding to see the parents smile and enjoy a Saturday morning watching their kids compete and play a sport they never could have dreamed that their children might have the opportunity to play. We can’t wait for next year,” junior Jake Colucci said.
Great Neck League parents were seemingly grateful for what the baseball team did to help their children. During this game, parents had a rare opportunity to step away from their everyday worries and watch their kids have the time of their lives playing baseball.
