Falcon Golfers plan to advance, regional play
The Falcon golf team returns to the green after finishing fifth in the state last year.
Head Coach Bill Stachelski and the team are off to a hot start with a 7-1 record. The team hopes to continue the winning streak against Salem High School on Tuesday, September 20.
“The team’s goals this season are to win Regionals and to finish higher than last year’s state placement of 5th,” Stachelski said.
Junior Katie Sager is currently the only female on the golf team and is in a class of her own without many other females to play against.
“I really enjoy being on the team. My teammates and coach have really helped me improve and we get to play on different courses such as Bow Creek, Stumpy Lake, and Red Wing,” Sager said.
Freshman Barrett Pendergast shot an impressive 73 in their last match; shooting a 72 is the average amount of strokes to maintain par for most courses. Pendergast maintained par for most of the round but just finished one stroke over par.
“We have come a long way this season; we are still looking to improve and I’m a freshman so I have plenty of time still. Overall, our goal is to win the regional tournament,” Pendergast said.
The Falcons will head to the Regional tournament on Monday, October 3.
