Lady Falcon Field Hockey celebrates seniors
Falcon Varsity Field Hockey played their last home game on the turf against the Green Run High School Stallions. The game was dedicated to the the senior players, who have worked for four years to continue the “tradition” of excellence that is Falcon field hockey.
What Happened: Each year, the team celebrates their seniors at the team’s last home game and despite COVID restrictions, this season was no exception. The team trampled the Stallions, ending with a 15-0 win. And, each senior field player scored goal, except for senior goalie Abby Spear, who once again recorded a shutout.
Key Players: Seniors Zella Bailey, Quin Braithewaite, Ava Ostrowski, Emme Schwartz, and Abby Spear, were all recognized in front of family and friends for their leadership and dedication to the team as a whole. All five girls have contributed to the “three-peat”, or three consecutive state during their time as Falcons. The seniors all said their last goodbyes when Head Coach Rountree took them off the field in the second half, replacing them with rising underclassmen.
Who said it: “It’s weird to think that after four years on this team, I am finally saying goodbye to Folks Field. Every single game and practice that I played here feels like the end of a great story, but also the start of a new beginning,” senior Abby Spear said.
Up Next: the Lady Falcons have the chance to be the first team to win two state titles in one calendar year due to the change in seasons during the pandemic. They move onto regional play next week.
