Falcon football defeats Marlins, crushing senior night
The Falcon football team took on the Bayside Marlins on Friday, March 5, in their one and only home game of the year. Although they didn’t get to see the game in person, students from the Falcon’s ‘Nest’ watched the game, streamed live from local sports diner, Shorebreak Pizza. True to form, ‘Nesters’ showed that their spirit lives on as they cheered on their Falcon boys.
Key players: The team was led by seniors Dominic Wilson, Mick Manning, and Dylan Hauser. These three captains have put in the time over the past few months to make a season work for their teammates and keep morale high. Manning is a vital part of the Falcon system with an astonishing amount of receiving yards.
No matter where he plays, Wilson makes himself a powerful force on offense, proving to be a challenge for every opponent thus far. Wilson ended his final home game, combined with Hauser’s stats, for four touchdowns.
Hauser also proved his spot as captain, leading the team to victory as a winning quarterback.
They said it: Friday proved to be a bittersweet end for many seniors as they took to the home field green one last time.
“It took some time for me to realize this was actually our last home game. It was sad, however, I’m glad we were able to execute on the field,” senior Michael McGowan said.
Key moments: The Falcons rounded out their win 34-16, over the Bayside Marlins in their only home game of the COVID season last Friday. This game marked the end of some players’ careers and was a culmination of years of work for many players. Friday’s game was also their Senior Night celebration that included: Zaire Lawrence, Corey Hunter, Dominic Wilson, Mick Manning, Dylan Hauser, Mason Leslie, Brendan Barker, Erek Arnett, Jake Bingham, Nathan Dieter, Rashad Jefferies, and Rian Gibson.
Up next: The Falcons will take on the First Colonial (F.C.) Patriots away at 7 p.m. Friday, March 12. (CANCELED)
