Mr. Cox: ten contestants, one winner

SENIOR CARTER DAVIS wins Mr.Cox 2014 and celebrates with his fellow classmates.
SENIOR CARTER DAVIS is named this year’s Mr.Cox,  celebrating with his fellow classmates.

This time the tables are turned as the boys show off their hidden talents on stage.  The boys will compete with one common goal; to impress the judges and strive to win the coveted title of ‘Mr. Cox.’

On Friday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s Garrett Auditorium, the ten male contestants will battle it out through the art of dance, their overall talent, and how well they ‘rock’ formal attire. The boys will begin with a group number, where they plan to ‘boogie down’ in order to hype up the audience.

According to student organizers, contestants are judged during each ‘act,’ beginning with the initial ‘boogie.’ Then a smaller group of contestants will come together for a themed performance, followed by the formal portion and a‘sashay’ down the catwalk, escorted by a lovely lady of their choice.

Senior Chris “Rudy” Ruediger has also been one of the key elements in the organization of ‘Mr. Cox,’ but is also one of the ten contestants.

“I’m excited to show the crowd how nice I can clean up and then strut across the stage with my beautiful escort.  I’m a lucky guy,” Ruediger said.

And, if the boys aren’t enough to entertain the audience, Zig Zag; an alternative band consisting of five of the school’s students will play while the judges tally the night’s scores.

Judges will choose four of the ten contestants to move on to the final round where the competition ends with an intense question and answer session. This means that he who answers best will win it all.

Winning the title of ‘Mr. Cox’ could be an epic experience, yet senior Isaiah Fenner enjoyed the camaraderie and the memories made.

“Although there was a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and twerking, I had a great time with my boys.  I loved being a part of an event with all of my closest friends.  It was an awesome experience with great people.  ‘Mr. Cox’ will be one of the many highlights of high school that I will never forget,” Fenner said.
