VBCPS chooses three, ‘great dreams need great teachers’
The Great Dreams Need Great Teachers Program recognizes superior teachers in Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS). Anyone can nominate a teacher by sending their name, along with a letter, to the Superintendent of Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ office. The chosen candidates are visited by Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence and celebrated for their hard work.
VBCPS recognized three teachers from the school for the esteemed program. Teachers Laura Beltz, Dawn Horan, and Maria (Vicky) Faircloth were congratulated and acknowledged for their excellent work. Dr. Spence visited them on January 16 during third block.
“My favorite part about being chosen was that it was done by students. I was incredibly surprised, and did not expect it,” Faircloth said.
This award demonstrates these teachers’ ability to go above and beyond in their everyday lessons. The program is representative of students due to the fact that they are able to elect teachers they believe made a positive impact on their lives.
“Sometimes teachers don’t feel like they’re recognized, so it always feels good to find out that you mean something to somebody,” Beltz said.
