NEWEST TEACHER OF the Year, CHS alumnus, and math teacher Melissa Rusak shares a moment with her husband Jeffrey (far right) and tow of her kids, (left-right) Wyatt and Deacon. Ironically, Rusak was named TOY on the first day of spirit week, pajama day.

Administration hosted their annual Distinguished Educator Award Ceremony on Monday, Dec. 17, after school in the library to announce next year’s ‘Teacher of the Year’, math teacher Mrs. Rusak.  She was chosen from four other distinguished teacher nominees and voted on by a committee of former teachers of the year.

School alumnus, assistant soccer coach, and mother to three, Rusak is definitely a busy woman. Yet, she manages to juggle teaching, family, friends, and coaching with ease.

Rusak has taught Math Analysis and other various math classes for the past 11 years, previously coached JV girls soccer and then moved on to an assistant varsity coach.  After her third child was born, daughter Finley, Rusak decided to focus more on her raising her family and teaching her students.

“I was so shocked.” Rusak said. “I had no idea it would be me and because I did graduate from Cox this honor means even more.”
